Server Stability Fix is Top Priority

By: CapoDeiCapi

Hey guys,

I just wanted to give you all a quick update on our server stability issues.

As you can imagine, no one is more concerned about this than we are. We’ve had far too many crashes since the last update and we’ve got everyone on the team with even an ounce of aptitude for server issues tasked with finding a fix. This is our No. 1 priority by a mile.

Now, all that said, there’s a silver lining behind the clouds of server crashes that bodes well for CrimeCraft once we get the problem fixed. That silver lining is that our community of players is growing every day, and while that is great news, we know it won’t do us any good in the long run if we can’t fix the crashes.

To do that, we have been studying logs extensively and we discovered that a recent change in the way the game queries the database is part of the problem. We tested the change before going live, but the problems don’t show up until the server hits a critical mass of players, a situation we are working to emulate on our test servers.

We are testing fixes and we have the ability to deploy solutions quickly, so don’t be surprised to see the game in maintenance occasionally as we work for a permanent answer.

Once we have a fix, we will be compensating all of our affected users for the inconvenience caused by the instability.

June Update Focusing on Player Requests, Bugs

By: CapoDeiCapi

Hey guys,

Over the past few months we’ve added some big features to CrimeCraft, from the 32-player map Delosville and Clubs to Free to Play and tournaments. We’ve also made a lot of smaller changes to address issues brought up by our users and make CrimeCraft more fun for all of our players.

Today, I can tell you that we’ve got an update in the works that surpasses all of the others in scope and content, but it’s a long-term project that won’t likely make it to your PCs until this fall. In the meantime, this next update is all about you. We are focusing in hard on player requests and bug fixes for June.

The first change I want to tell you about is a request that came directly from our most dedicated tournament players. For the Daily and Weekly Tournaments, teams will now be placed in brackets by the highest level team member instead of the average level of the team. This means a level 50 can still team with three level 30s, but they will be placed in Division 1.

Here are some of the other changes and fixes you can expect to see in the June update:

  • UI/Game Lag improvements – We are optimizing the servers to eliminate lag when searching the auction house, using the mail system and when the crafting tab is open
  • Gang Production – Gang production time is being reduced and rewards increased
  • Game Freezes – Game freezes during crafting fixed
  • Mini-Map Errors – Blacked out Mini-Maps fixed

There’s also a number of smaller fixes going in that we’ll detail in the patch notes.

Another popular request we’ve received is for customizable matches with player-controlled limits on weapons or the number of players. We are working on a design for this, but it will not be implemented in time for the June update. At this time there are server load issues that make implementation less than optimal, but the team is considering a number of options to give players more control over their matches.

Private matches and spectator mode also are popular requests, but these are server resource hogs that also will not be implemented in the short term. We have placed these features on our “to do” list, but at this time we can’t commit to a date for implementation.

The changes that are targeted for June are essential to the overall health and stability of CrimeCraft, but trust me when I say that we’ve got some exciting features coming later this summer and into the fall that are going to expand the story of Sunrise City and let you write your name in blood across the skyline! Metaphorically speaking, because if it was literal that would be a little gross.
