Alright I've just downloaded the game and it's patching right now. So I'm just lurking around the forums. Any tips for a newbie, like things not to do in-game, weapons/things I SHOULD do. etc.

 Well there are many but let me tell you few:

You can sell or buy anything you have by click and drag to mainchat, then other players can view details about your object much simple 

Do not spend your money, only after you think that deserves

Do not use youre SP (skill points) on abillities until youre 100% sure of it (you will reach 1sp/level)

 Try to avoid the PvP fights wich warns you that are too difficult

generally keep the weapons you get at first until you're past lvl15, cuz everything else in the stores up till then just sucks.

if you choose a trade to work with, try to trade the other containers with people of the other trades, and only keep what you need. if you have 5 chemist ingredients and you're, for example a gunsmith, you can only sell them for 1$ all or 1$ each if you split the stacks.

get the simplest recipe in your trade, the first one which demands the simplest most easy to get ingredients, and create tons of them to upgrade in profession level. if you buy other recipes, the chances of upgrading the prof.lvl get smaller and smaller, and the other recipes with now higher chanced of upgrading need rarer ingredients and it's harder to create anything at all and u get stuck at low prof.lvls :(

I'm not sure what profession to suggest anymore, part of me thinks Engineer who makes attachments will be the most profitable, but I do not know anything regarding this profession.

Go to all the city and accept all the missions (marked by "!" on the map) - then go to the payphone and accept the missions you expect to complete quickest.

Buy a Sigma (SMG) and use it as your main weapon, with either an auto/burst AR or SG as secondary (best of with an AR for some range).

if u wanna learn the game fast,then compelete the missions untill u get lvl 20,this way u will be lvl up faster and learn almost everything about the game ,so i suggest dont join pvp unless u have mission there b4 u get to lvl 20 atleast.

use the Auctions house if u wanna buy something,

there is a lot of cheap stuff for under lvl 20 players. tons of better weapons as in the gun store.

but be carefull with integrants and compare with vendors price.
