"Sometimes I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us." from Calvin and Hobbes
Where are you from?
I am from Brooklyn, NY, grew up in and around New York City and central NJ, and have also lived in Virginia and Arizona.
What do you do on CrimeCraft?
I have a variety of tasks that all fall under the general heading of design. This includes things like content design, such as writing quests and developing storylines, and system design, including itemization and character progression.
What other titles have you worked on?
I worked with EA Mythic on Warhammer Online.
How did you get involved in your game industry role?
I have a Bachelor's degree in Geological Sciences. I went to school to be a dinosaur vertebrate paleontologist & evolutionary scientist, which isn't the most direct route into the games industry. However, that background gave me training which I used quite a lot when I started a fansite for Anarchy Online named Faunlore, a bestiary in which I made ecological reconstructions for Rubi-Ka and the Shadowlands. That bestiary became pretty popular, and one thing led to another. Before I knew it I was working in the industry as a content designer, and eventually made my way to Vogster.
What's your favorite game?
Deus Ex would be my absolute favorite game, but I have quite a few others in the top tier, including Final Fantasy IV, VIII and X, Fallout 3, Knights of the Old Republic, Mass Effect, Unreal and Rise of Nations.
What kind of music do you listen to?
I listen to a pretty eclectic mix of stuff. However, there is one band whose music I will always stop to listen to: Garbage.
What do you do for fun?
There are some TV shows I watch, like Lost, Chuck, Terminator, Good Eats, Medium, etc., as well as a lot of news and commentary, including Countdown and Meet the Press. I also enjoy reading non-fiction science, philosophy, history and opinion books, and have a lot of fun writing my own stories and ideas, particularly relating to gaming or civilization and evolution. There is also gaming, of course, and I spend a lot of time playing on the PC or X-Box 360.
However, the most fun is spending time with my wife: dinners, movies, shopping, whatever. None of the other stuff is as fun without her.
