Kevin Balentine | Senior Community Manager

“Our causes can’t see their effects.”

Where are you from?
I guess the easy answer to this is Texas, though I haven’t lived there in four years and didn’t move there until I was a junior in high school. Growing up an Army brat means you move around a lot. I lived all over the south and even in what was then West Germany, but when I look back, I call Texas “home.”

What do you do on CrimeCraft?
I am the senior community manager … that means I have to keep all you gangstas in line!

What other titles have you worked on?
Most recently I worked at Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment on the as yet unreleased MMORPG Stargate Worlds. Prior to that, I worked for an agency on games ranging from Pox Nora to Dreamblade and The Chronicles of Spellborn to War Rock.

How did you get involved in your game industry role?
It was a long strange road for me. Out of college I started working in the newspaper industry, back when there still was a newspaper industry to work in. As time wore on and it became clear the corporate structure wouldn’t evolve in ways that would help newspapers survive, I started looking for ways to take my talents in other directions. When an opportunity came up to join an innovative agency in Los Angeles that focused on gaming, I jumped at the chance.

What's your favorite game?
I know a lot of FPS purists will give me grief for saying this, but I love Halo. On the PC, I play a lot of Day of Defeat and a few other shooters. Other games I enjoy include Sword of the Stars, the Total War series and the Burnout series.

What kind of music do you listen to?
Mostly rock, some electronic, some industrial. The bands I find myself listening to the most lately include Rush, The Sword, Portishead, Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails. I also love punk like Bad Religion and Social Distortion. And don’t forget Johnny Cash.

What do you do for fun?
There are so many things that fall under this category. I love to spend time with my friends on and offline. I also enjoy reading when I’m not gaming, and just last weekend I discovered the Strand bookstore in Manhattan. Place has 18 miles of books, I was in book nerdvana.
