Nikolay Muravsky| Lead Level Designer

Where are you from?
I grew up in one of those small towns which are satellites for nuclear power plants. You can see those towns after technogeneous catastrophes in games like STALKER. During the last 8 years I live and work in Kiev.

What do you do on CrimeCraft?
I’m Lead Level Designer on CrimeCraft and responsible for everything that’s related to game locations and their development.

What other titles have you worked on?
During my employment in game development industry I used to work on projects of different genres. At first I was a texture artist on the WWII shooter which was never released. After that I worked on a few adventures as a level designer, artist, texture artist. For the next few years I took on various experimental gameplay projects, among those Orb Games’ Stardrone especially stuck to my memory. As time went by, my aspiration for shooters, level design and Unreal Technology led me to CrimeCraft.

How did you get involved in your game industry role?
Heh, as far as I can tell, I always had a passion for construction and design. Indeed, when children in a sandbox used to build complex castles of sand, it’s me who was that dandy guy destroying those constructions just out of curiosity. I always kept an eye on how IT and videogames were evolving. Later, when studying at the institute to become an IT specialist, I combined my teen-age undertakings of shooter level development and modifications with the experience I gained as an artist. And thus I became a level designer.

What's your favorite game?

It’s hard to tell with everything that’s around. Among my favorites are Call of Duty, Battlefield, Unreal Tournament, Heroes of Might & Magic, and the Hitman franchises. Ah, almost forgot good old Pac-Man, Mario Bros. and Street Fighter. To name my latest favorites, there are Team Fortress 2 and ZenoClash.

What kind of music do you listen to?
It turned out that I used to listen to a lot of various music styles and genres. They followed each other very often during many years – from Detroit Techno to Drum’n’Bass, from Grunge to Indie. On the whole, I like high-quality electronic music. Ok, more specifically. At the moment I’m happy with chap Richie Hawtin, new duet Moderat, European technoscene, flowery Nathan Fake and James Holden's Border Community. With particular trepidation I listen to music written by my fellow musicians and DJs. Also, I listen to those scratching sounds I make whilst trying to write music.

What do you do for fun?
It’s hard to tell “what I don’t do for fun”. I like to go on travels, listen to music. Also there’s parachute sports, rope jumping, slackline, kiting, paragliding... I like to do something crazy with my friends, making CrimeCraft comes to mind.
