Hey guys,

I asked one of our QA testers, Priscilla Figuereo, to talk about the testing process we use on CrimeCraft, and she wrote this fantastic look inside quality assurance:

In the QA department, we get to see new features that will make it into CrimeCraft well before it makes it to the public. Our job is to test these features to ensure that the game works as designed, and to that end, we develop test plans that outline the steps we take when, for example, we run through a new or redesigned map.

When an update includes as many changes as we have implemented since launch, and what we have planned for our next update, it can seem daunting. However, test plans are instituted to make the QA process run smoothly. Collision is something we test heavily when running around new and redesigned maps, making sure there are no areas players can exploit or spots where players can get stuck or fall through the map. Interacting with NPCs is a must to make sure they are all functioning in their roles and retesting missions and jobs is just as relevant to ensure all is running smoothly. The new Black Market items will be purchased ensuring the proper amount of Gold Bars are deducted from player accounts and the new item correctly applied to the player character account.

With every new patch update, in addition to testing the new content and features, it is imperative to constantly retest existing content and features to ensure continuity and that everything is working as it should. Missions will be run through again, jobs tested and buffs equipped to make sure increased experience, loot and money are still being awarded to the player just to name a few. In addition combining old abilities with new abilities to make sure there are no errors and extensive testing to ensure missions, jobs and abilities work on all possible profiles.

We’re excited about testing the new features and we can’t wait to launch the test server so we can get player input on all of the new features too. We have a very small testing team, only about eight people, compared to some MMOs that can have 200 or more staff testers. Getting you guys onto the test server will help us spot a lot more issues and improve the overall quality of the game even faster.

Remember to check your email for the test surver application survey!
