I bet you thought I was dead, I know you all gathered for drinks and celebrations at the bar as soon as you thought I was six feet under. I bet you thought you were safe now, safe to carry on your deals, carry on your gangs and your lives without war, without me. You thought wrong...
I was driving back from a meeting at the gang bar when I pulled up at the red light that day. I was thrown sideways into the driver's door as another car smashed full speed into the side of my car, I was thrown backwards as another car catapulted, full force into the front of my car. Battered, bruised and bloody I watched, my one eye open as I saw a bulldozer in my rear view mirror approach from behind. I tried to reach for the door handle but my arm was broken, I screamed out as I felt the rush of pain from moving my arm in any minor direction. I managed to hook my finger around the door handle, just enough to get some force and the door opened slightly. I could hear the loud groan of the bulldozer engine behind me as I pushed all of my wieght into the door. The door fell open and i rolled out with a harsh thud onto the road beneath.
I managed to gather enough momentum to roll myself right into the nearby grass and bush growth. I then remember lying there and then giving up and the world around me going black. Black, dark and empty.
I awoke in hospital four days later, covered in bandages but still alive. I laughed to myself, lucky SOB, not even a bulldozer can stop me! I felt a mixture of sadness, relief and pain all at the same time. I turned slightly to the side as I lay on the hospital bed. I could see the nurse's shadow moving about behind the green hospital curtain. I just lay there and watched the shadows dance about behind the curtain, like candles in the wind. A blood curdling scream broke my train of thought, I saw the shadow of the nurse drop to the floor. I saw the shadow of a figure approach the curtain, I could hear the clip-clop of footsteps grow louder with each step. I lay there, very still and very silen.t I struggled to control my heavy breathing and I shut my eyes. Was this it? was this the end?
I lay there, waiting for the inevitable. A deep, low and quiet voice spoke aloud and said 'Are you ready?' I opened my eyes slightly and could see it was a tall man, a familiar man. I could not make out his face but he spoke again in a hushed tone. He said 'I am D, I am here to help you, We are going to get you out of here, you are in danger'.
