I never thought anything like this could happen, I convinced myself that coming to Sunrise City would signal a new beginning, a fresh start but after that one night one year ago today.... Everything changed. A man is not to know what foul dust could float in the wake of his dreams.
I stood in the middle of Midtown holding my pistol in my hand and staring at the floor, just standing there, thinking. The blood spatters seemed to contrast starkly against my once clean black suit and tie with my white shirt. I lifted my hand slightly to look at the pistol, how had i gotten myself into this mess? A year ago I was just a normal guy, I had a job in an office, a steady relationship with my girlfriend and would meet up with friends. That was all a lifetime ago and now my reality is one filled with one focus, to fight. I need to fight just to survive now, everyday they hunt me like a predator hunts it prey. I must continue to run, always fight and never give in or let them catch me. This is my story, listen carefully it may be my last chance.
It all started one year ago, I awoke in the middle of the night to hear a feint scraping sound against my window, I crept out of bed and walked towards the window, I slowly pulled back the curtain and let out a scream as I saw the cold dark eyes of someone staring back. A figure staring back at me through the window, before I had any chance to react I heard a loud bang and turned sharply to see my door had been smashed off the hinges, the figure smashed through the window behind me and I felt several masked men rush towards me pointing guns. Not one of them spoke a word, just the sound of the rattling handcuffs they placed on me could be heard. I was marched down the stairs from my apartment and thrown into what I think was a van.
Who were these people? Why had they taken me?
I was bundled out of the van and the bag was ripped off my head. It was a while before my eyes could adjust to the light and I attempted to rub them then remembered the handcuffs. I could feel a sharp tinge of pain coming from my hands where the handcuffs had been tightened. I attempted to look around but it was dark and from what I could make out I was in some sort of old factory or warehouse. One of the men pulled a chair over and pushed me onto it, i hit the chair sitting with a thump. One single light overhead illuminated the coldness of his eyes. I wondered what he looked like for a moment beneath the balaclava mask. He said only one short sentence to me 'Jon we know what you did at Oceanside'. Then he turned and left the room, entering a door I could barely see in the darkness. I was left alone, handcuffed to the chair and in the darkness.
They must have the wrong guy, I have never even been to Oceanside, I have never even visited Sunrise City! How do they know my name? Who are these people and what do they think I have done? I have never felt true fear like this in my life, I prayed for the 12 hours I was left there, I made my peace with God and lived each moment not knowing if a masked figure was going to return to end my life, I was sure I was going to die, alone in an old warehouse with nobody ever knowing why.
That was not the case I felt someone grab me from behind and place a hand over my mouth, a small hushed voice said 'Do not scream and do not say a word, I am going to get you out of here'. I felt the cuffs loosen and then fall to the floor with a clink, I placed my hand on the shoulder of this person I could barely see through the dark and they lead me out towards a fire exit, we opened the door and I was blinded by the daylight, I followed this person into a waiting white van and they slid the door closed.
I knew after that day one year ago everything would change, My life would be different, I would be different. They destroyed everything that day, they moved my girlfriend to another country or so that’s what I heard, they destroyed my apartment and I could not return to my job. They tried to destroy me through targeting everything I have when they lost me. They made a mistake, a big mistake.
I have nothing left to lose, I stand here in Midtown now with the blood on my hands of several of those who destroyed my life. I walk across Midtown and into the gang hideout for my new family now, Shell Shock Militia. That figure that day one year ago, that hushed voice and guide through the dark to safety, to life was a member of the Shell Shock Militia. They saved me and I owe my life to them.
Payback is due and after training for a year, learning and planning. My time has come, my time is now. Revenge is my only motivation and redemption will be my reward. I walk into the hideout, take a seat at one of the barstools near the bar and light a cigar.
This is just beginning...
