In all honesty, a quick answer would be to expierement. I know that most people want to have the "best" setups right out the gate, however, each player plays differently and excells in different areas with certain setups. Getting my drift so far? Gold bars will help to.... enhance you're gameplay, especcially in the area of customization and to get specific items, i.e. high level drugs/meds/attatchments, or whatever else you want.
I originally jumped on this because you asked about "classes." These again are very individual oriented. Right now one of the most popular classes is the very first class you get when you start playing, which is the Soldier Class. It has one of the most popular guns in teh game as well as a nice health boost that does not require activation, making it's ease of use extraoridinary.
As you move you and find weapons/drugs/abilities that you enjoy or are better at using, you will find other classes that are set to your needs. Like using grenade launchers? Grenadier or Bombadier are two classes you might like. Rockets? Demolisher or Rocketeer would be great for you! Enjoy having invisibility? Assasin w/ LMG or Shadow Spy w/ SG would be up your alley.
Taking into account of course, that certain classes only become unlocked at a certain level, and some of these classes can be quite pricey.
Well, hope this helped ! Happy gaming !

If you want to know the most op and easiest to use classes in the game, they are regenerator and pyrotech classes. Though I've heard it costs an arm and a leg to max out regeneraator class.

All the classes once maxed will cost you around the vicinity of 600-650kish. Do agree with earth tho, regenerator and pyro are the best (most op) classes to use once you get used to either DIS or fire. (does not take long)

First of all: NO Class is OP. There are just stronger and weaker classes, but compared to custom profiles they are all weak and far from beeing OP at all.
Here is a glimps of the Class overview I am working on since some time but dont get to an end...
I own all classes and have maxed 14 of them. Others tested and more will follow :)
Rating is 10 of 10 points. Compared to other classes of course. You can consider custom profiles at 20 points when you want to compare...
Pyro: 10/10
Definatly the strongest class because its setup is all centered on damage output. The strength comes from the fact that Fire is pretty strong and hard to counter in CC.
Tank: 9/10
Bess, Damp and Raskolnikow. Nothing else to add here :) Situational, tho many use it in pubs 24/7...
Regenerator: 8/10
Strong class, but with a low dmg output and no defense, a bad setup (no SMG) and a heal orientied build. If you dont time your DIS VERY good you are dead instantly.
Assassin: 8/10
Strong equip and a good setup. In the right hands this is a deadly weapon. Situational too, but when u keep thinking of your backstab dmg bonus u can handle all modes well. Lacks Health reg because of the too high CD of the Medkit...
Outlaw: 7/10
Same as with Assassin. One wrong step and u are dead. No Medkit, a not so easy to handle Autorifle (but strong if u are trained with it).
Useless classes:
Grenadier 2/10
Defender 3/10
Kamikaze 1/10
Day Tripper 2/10
Helping Hand 3/10

Used correctly Smoker can be pretty good at vomiting rockets, not to mention the smoke nade has various different uses.
Other class i like is the Bombardier, simply because 3 frags 3 corrosive nades, with stone and a nice medkit/stamina regen, really good for those long runs with bags or flags.

I would wait till level 35 or 40 to work on your custom setup. And the gear i would get(sorry for not knowing the names) are the lv35 or lv40 blue gears, head i would get the healing effect bonus one(or the negative effect reduction, depending on your needs), shirt, i would get the body shot damage reduction, pants, the leg shot reduction one, and shoes, the Boost cooldown reduction.
This is just my personal opinion, as your playstyle effects what clothes work best for you.
If you wait till then to get your gears, youll get the most bang out of your buck, as they are competative even against lv50's, and youll level out of your gear too fast if you get them too early.
