Report2

On July 1 the Patron Saint competition was announced, challenging the top gangsters of Sunrise City to build an empire. Using the Patronage feature on our website (under account page) and recruitment inside of the game, players fought to build the biggest crew and win a $200 cash prize. After over a month of campaigning a true Patron Saint emerged, claiming 177 associates to win the title and the cash.

With me today is the winner of the competition, BombaFat! Congrats on winning!

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

My name is Malte and I live Germany. I am 21 years old and am currently studying at a technical university."Flail" is my roommate and a great friend at my university.

Oh boy… I remember getting killed by Flail many times before in-game. Guess he was just too good for me! I am curious, what degree are you pursuing?

I want to become an Energy Engineer… a pretty new type of degree. When I get my degree I will be able to help develop new energy sources so we do not have to rely on oil so much or at the least help lower the cost of these energy sources.

If you can help lower the price of gas I will be very grateful! Anyways, how did you get into CrimeCraft?

I played another MMO with Flail until we got bored of it. He found out about CrimeCraft a month before me and introduced me to the game on April 20 2010.

Wow you remember the exact date; I can’t even remember my girlfriend’s birthday! So, what motivated you to take part in the Patron Saint competition?

I was sad that I wasn’t able to participate in the SCIFF (Sunrise City Indie Film Fest) because I did not have time. Additionally I like to help new players. I recognized that not many players know about the "patronage system" and so I thought I would have a good chance.

Looks like you were right! I know you don’t want to give away your strategy, but how did you recruit nearly 200 associates? Did you start becoming players ‘patron’ before the competition started?

I already had some crew members … real life friends of mine. My strategy was asking first my in game friends and gang members to join my crew. After that I began running between the city's districts asking a lot of people to join me. I focused on offering help to new players and answered their questions at all times.

I did face some troubles though. Some players did not speak English that well or at all. To solve this problem I used a translation tool. It was still hard to explain to them how to join my crew. Translating whole sentences doesn’t work so well all the time. I tried my best though.

We created the patronage system in part to reward players who help others. Have you received a lot of gold bars as a result?

Yeah, I was asked a lot of "how to ..." questions from all my crew members and answered them all … a lot of them even started using the patronage system after I explained it to them. Considering the size of my crew you can imagine this took a lot of time. However I already received about 250 gold bars. That and the prize, definitely made up for my troubles :P.

You have some good karma! Thanks for your time, anything that you wanted to share before we wrap things up?

I want to thank everybody who supported me, every new friend I got through this competition and every loyal friend who became a part of my crew.

On behalf of the Vogster team, congrats and thanks for the interview! Good luck to you and enjoy the prize money!
