Good idea, and thats coming from someone who's knife is probably their primary weapon :3

These ideas sound interesting, but it dont really fit well to game. Knife have its important function, to kill players, you could not normally kill unless you use corrosion rounds, which should not be mandatory skill.
As it is now everyone can deal with psp or bess users, that why damage of jump knife and its mechanic which require skill and posibility to use it while being equiped with weapon should remain same.
So if some new melee weapons could be added, its should be more visual or style decision of player, which melee weapon he want use, but its power, mechanic and its free slot should remain as it is with knife.

Only thing I dont like about this is I carry one less weapon. On my main profile I'm constantly switching between my AR and SMG depending on where I am and wheres the enemy and than swapping to my GL to flush out or cover entrances. Than of course I've got a knife handy for those close encounters or bess/PSP users. So I'm not sure about losing a weapon in favor of this idea but maybe if Melee had its own weapon slot Id be all up for it.

I forgot to mention, that the Melee resist would not be affected by the normal Defensive Boosts like Bess and Liquid Stone. The counter mechanics of Melee weapons should still work out.

My initial idea back in the BETA was like that. Adding a melee weapon slot. Bot to be honest, the player models would be even more crowded with weapons.
Maybe you could combine both solutions and let the knife as a weapon, but adjust its usage and power with the other weapons.
But also I would like the idea of having to choose whether to take three guns or two guns and a melee weapon. Would make team play even more important.

If i would like to play with lots of different melee weapons i would go play WoW or something (or dead island lol)
It does not fit this game at all. Too much things would need to change.
However it would be cool to change the look of the knife, as i also said in beta forums.

i have to agree. although many people do not like melee, it is a core game mechanic and makes crimecraft what it is, and stacking health and/or melee damage reduction helps.
+1 to the knife skins, now if i can convience them to make one of the skins a giant purple 'phallus device', ill be a happy camper(Don't worry, ill only uppercut with it) ^^

Well, if u dont like the melee idea, then the knife should be nerfed dead or removed.
The mechanics as they are now are do not fit for a shooter.
And the melee is only that strong because of jump and defense mechanics (bess...)
Adding Melee weapons would not make this game a melee type of game. It would just add some real style.
I mean, cmon, its postapokalyptic gang battle. I would expect a baseball club more than a grenade or rocket launcher.

I already posted some of this on the BETA Forums. But since then the idea evolved and I added some details from other games that inspired me.
So here is the idea:
- Remove knife
- Add Melee weapons that can be equiped in SMG/AR/LMG Slot (listed below)
- Add Weaponsmith as Crafting profession
- Add some new abilites supporting melee weapons (listed below)
- Add Melee dmg resist as a normal resist to all clothes.
Melee Weapon mechanics
Weapons are equiped in the regular weapon slots and therefore visible at character model
Primary Attack is Fire Button and is no "static" animation anymore like knife standard attack.
Melee weapon dmg from like 160 dmg is only for big weapons like the Sledgehammer
Secondary Attack is a faster, secondary attack which deals only 50% dmg (hitting with the hilt)
or:
Secondary Attack is a jump attack like knife jump is now. But only deals like 25%-50% bonus dmg.
Melee Weapons
SMG Slot:
- Combat Knife: low attack speed but most dmg
- Knife: moderate Attack speed, moderate dmg
- Brass Knuckles: fast attack speed, low dmg
AR Slot:
- Fireaxe: slow attack speed, high damage
- Metal Baseball Club: moderate attack speed, moderate damage
- Katana: high attack speed, low dmg (I know, not quite realistic, but ok, its a non realistic game anyway lol...)
LMG Slot:
- Sledgehammer: slow attack speed, high damage
- Chainsaw: moderate attack speed, moderate damage
- Fighting Staff: high attack speed, low dmg
Melee Weapon Attachments
Energymodules
Adds electric energy to the weapon that unleashes with the first blow and has a cooldown.
The better the Module the longer is the stun duration and the lower the cooldown.
Blade
The better the blade, the more dmg.
Hilt
The better the hilt, the higher is the attack speed.
Ammunition Slot:
You can buy a scabbard for your weapon. A Scabbard decreases the time u need to draw the weapon in combat.
Melee Weapon Abilities
Master of the sword
Duration: 10 seconds or until the first attack
Effect: the first blow within the duration deals x2/x3/x4 dmg (or like HVI rounds)
Drawback: for the duration of the ability the character cannot run, but only walk.
Berserk
Duration: 10 seconds
Effect: Increased Running speed, immunity to stamina negative modifiers, -100% stamina consumption
Melee attack is always a jump attack and deals x2 dmg.
Also adds some Resistance bonus, absorb or health reg of some kind maybe
Drawback: can only be activated with a melee weapon equiped and expires when weapon is changed.
After the effect ends, Stamina is down at 0% max stamina automatically and the regeneration rate is down by -50% for 5 seconds.
Poisoned Blade
Hits from the melee weapon inflict damage over time (8/12/16).
Vibro Blade
Decreases all resistances by -20/30/40% on hit. Consumes the energy field and the stun effect therefore does not take place. The ability is passive and is just a replacement for the stun effect of energy modules.
Cannot be equiped with Poisoned Blade.
Note: these are only suggestions based on the idea, that a fight between gangs should be more brutal and bloody and less simple than the knife fight mechanics already there. Especially the idea of baseball clubs, sledgehammer or even katana seems quite logic...
