I can attest that an LMG can be used from a somewhat large distance, but you gotta be REALLY good at controlling the recoil. Mine puts out around 30+ damage each hit to the torso, so yeah it's pretty powerful. As for snipers, just use invisibility and a shotgun. Works ...

 To increase AI difficulty manually: Hit esc--->click on "game"--->at the top should be "PvE difficulty". There is your setting to change it. Have fun getting high tier crates to make lotsa money.

 You do have to be pretty darn close to get the one shot off. Then there's the fact that the shotgun only holds 4 rounds at a time by default. Most kill that I see are at medium range anyways. I find shotguns to be fine.

 Not sure, but the prologue should only take an hour or so if you don't take any breaks in between missions. Then you will be able to ramp up the AI difficulty manually and enjoy high quality crates.
